“Back in the days women gathered together in a circle to embroider and sing folklore songs. It is believed that the threads absorb the protective vibrations of the songs to later guard its wearer.”

Miroslava

|| Zakarpattia, Ukraine ||

Vyshyvanka embroidery is a national and cultural tradition of Ukraine.
These gorgeous embroidered dresses have long been treated as sacred and are passed down from one generation to next.

Each embroidery embodies centuries of folk culture with its unique symbolism and traces of ancient pagan imagery.
Vyshyvanka are believed to act as a protective charm.
Passed on from mother to daughter, this folk embroidery craft intertwined with a number of beliefs, myths, and superstitions, including beliefs about protection and fertility.
Mothers gifted self embroidered shirts to the children who were to leave a family home for either traveling, studying, or marrying.

In those days women gathered together to embroider and sing folklore songs. It is believed that in such a way the threads absorb the vibrations of the songs and guard its wearer for life.
